cigarette smoke

i want to be like cigarette smoke
and enter your body,
penetrate your lungs with my love
in a mimicry – a mockery – of life

i long to live amidst each of your breaths
fill out the invisible solitude
in your mind
with my dark touch, my ethereal form

and maybe grow, like cancer,
in your insides, hold your soul tight
in my fragmentary, caring grasp

finally bloom, falling petals
the deathliest of flowers next to your heart
pollen coursing down your veins
pulsate along to their tune
slide down onto your legs

ash left, blown astray, dead
life within, gust of smoke, out in a hush
