(Poem written in response to Mara Eastern’s Poetry 101 Rehab: Home)
home
the word resounds in my mind, like a hum
and what do i think about?
smiles, eyes, hearts, hands, souls
words, cuts, white, black, ink, love
fur, purr, growl, low, kind, hair
soil, rain, sun, shelter, joy
what now?
my body, a carcass, a house
of skin, bones and blood
my eyes hidden from myself
where to go?
what to say?
with this mouth when treacherous sound
like a whimper escapes
whirl the words in my tongue, they twirl–
turn into something new
heart on the horizon, feet rooted deep
i want to go, but i do not want to leave
not once more
not before i start again
what is a home?
a place, a song, verse or prose
someone, something, somewhere
but where? what? whom?
Just wow… The poem will now probably haunt me for a long time: it’s hugely impressive. I wish I could say more, but I’m quite wordless… An excellent, excellent piece!

I’m really flattered! I was quite insecure when I first wrote it because it lacks structure; the stanzas do not build from the previous one, as in most of my poems. But I decided to leave it like that so as to convey train of thought more than anything else (and another commenter called in exactly that so I’m really glad it worked). Thank you again!

What is a home, your poem leaves us wondering… great!

Thanks for reading! And that is something I’ve asked myself for a long time now; I never seem to get to a concrete answer though! Maybe some things in life are better left unknown?

Your last lines are running through my head again and again and again…
They won’t stop :O
I am truly amazed by your train of thoughts and how you expressed yourself.

Wow, I’m sorry (but mostly glad) my poem had such a powerful effect on you. The last lines convey something that I’ve been asking myself for over a year now… what really is a home? can we have more than one?
There’s a great song (really catchy, too) by my favourite musician called “Home from Home”. It’s by Roo Panes. Though the mood of the song is quite different to that of my poem, it was playing over and over in my mind as I wrote it. I wholly recommend you to listen to it (it’s such a feel-good song it’s unbelievable!).
Thank you!

The song is really providing a relaxed and happy athmosphere. I can’t say I don’t like it although I usually tend to listen to different stuff.
Do you know “Nobody’s Home” from Avril Lavigne?
