heart of a fox, brain of a fish

the heart, they call
after thunderous steps
vibrant horseshoes
on clear stone, cobbled roads,
it races, rushes
out of pace– of sight

whinnies the brain now
misplaced, unsought
as words remain unsaid,
over this shaking earth
tectonic plates
in an ignited crash
with platonic love–
a thunderous blow
to my pit, my spite

yes, one slippery fish again
yet stumbling now
down roaring hot springs
away, through misty air
and I, the wailing fox
ever awaiting an overdue grasp
on time

crash of the salmon,
break of the horse–
am I swimming in an eternal pond,
or falling off the edge
of the world?
